Igor Shesterkin Out for Season; Dylan Garand to Start for Rangers Sunday
Igor Shesterkin is out for the season. Dylan Garand starts Sunday against Vancouver while Joonas Korpisalo remains sidelined. Here's the NHL DFS impact.

The New York Rangers announced Saturday that Igor Shesterkin will miss the rest of the 2026-27 season with a lower-body injury suffered Friday at Washington. He was helped off the ice during the second period after an awkward collision with the goalpost. The club has not provided a more specific public diagnosis.
Dylan Garand will start Sunday, October 11, when the Rangers host Vancouver at 6 p.m. ET, according to the NHL. That is the next immediate lineup decision, but the longer-term goaltending arrangement has not been finalized.
What changes for New York
This is more than a one-game scratch. Shesterkin opened the season with a 3-1-0 record, a 1.79 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in five starts. Losing the team’s established No. 1 goalie forces New York to reshape its plan in net for the remainder of the season.
Regular backup Joonas Korpisalo is also sidelined for approximately four weeks with a lower-body injury. Garand, who replaced Shesterkin against the Capitals, is the Rangers’ immediate option. He also recorded a 22-save shutout against Detroit on October 2. Neither that result nor Sunday’s starting assignment guarantees how New York will divide starts once its goalie depth changes.
NHL DFS and fantasy impact
Garand moves from a short-term depth story to an important goaltender to evaluate. His opportunity is real, but his NHL sample is small, so fantasy decisions should reflect both the starting confirmation and the opposing offense rather than treating him as a direct Shesterkin replacement.
For Vancouver skaters, Sunday presents a different goaltending matchup than one featuring Shesterkin. That improves the reason to investigate the matchup, not an automatic case to stack the Canucks. New York’s defensemen, including Adam Fox, still face the same responsibility to limit quality chances.
Korpisalo’s eventual availability and any further Rangers roster moves will determine whether Garand keeps the crease beyond the immediate stretch. Follow the confirmed starter and line combinations in our NHL Daily Lineups hub.
