Jalen Hurts Ruled Out vs. Panthers After Blood Clot Update | NFL Week 6
Jalen Hurts is out against Carolina after an ultrasound showed movement in a blood clot. The Eagles are determining treatment; no return timetable was given.

Jalen Hurts will miss the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 18, after a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in a small blood clot, according to a team statement shared Thursday by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The Eagles said they are determining the appropriate treatment. Their statement did not provide a timetable for Hurts’ return beyond ruling him out for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup.
What the Eagles said about Hurts’ blood clot
According to the team’s account, Hurts first requested treatment for his calf after practice on Thursday, October 8. He told the medical staff he had been cleated during the October 4 game against the Rams. He had practiced fully Wednesday and Thursday, then received additional treatment and practiced fully Friday.
An ultrasound performed Saturday after the Eagles arrived in London and completed their walkthrough revealed a superficial blood clot. The team said its medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and cleared Hurts to play, recommending a follow-up ultrasound after the game and return flight.
Hurts played without limitation Sunday, received treatment Monday and Tuesday, and participated fully in Wednesday’s practice. Philadelphia’s October 14 injury report listed him as a full participant with a calf issue.
The change came Wednesday night, when the follow-up ultrasound showed movement in the clot. That finding prompted the decision to hold him out against Carolina while the team determines treatment. The Eagles said they had remained in contact with the league office about the situation.
Tanner McKee is next on Philadelphia’s depth chart
The Eagles’ team-published unofficial depth chart lists Tanner McKee second at quarterback behind Hurts, with Cole Payton third. That makes McKee the next quarterback on the listed depth chart, although the statement about Hurts did not announce Sunday’s starter.
Philadelphia also has other offensive availability questions. Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith did not practice Wednesday, according to the team’s injury report. Those practice absences do not establish their final game status, but they are important to follow alongside the quarterback change.
Week 6 DFS and betting impact
For DFS, remove Hurts from Sunday lineup plans and revisit any Eagles stacks built around him. A replacement quarterback should be evaluated on his own salary, expected role and available receivers once Philadelphia confirms its plan. Hurts’ absence alone does not establish McKee as a value play or justify carrying over the same passing and rushing expectations.
For bettors, the quarterback change is a reason to reassess Eagles-Panthers wagers against the updated market. Recheck the current spread, total and player props before acting on an earlier pick; prices posted before the announcement may still assume Hurts is playing.
The confirmed news is Hurts’ absence this Sunday. Any assessment of a longer absence must wait for a further update from the Eagles.
