CTS Commanders vs. 49ers Showdown Picks: NFL Week 6 DFS featured image

Monday night’s slate starts with a familiar dilemma: pay for Christian McCaffrey at Captain, or use the savings from another top option to build a stronger supporting cast. The receiver injuries on both sides make that decision more interesting. There should be affordable routes available, but we need to distinguish players gaining real opportunities from players who merely appear higher on a depleted depth chart.

Washington visits San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium on Monday, October 19, 2026, with kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET. These are our early Week 6 DraftKings Showdown picks for the Commanders and 49ers. Official game preview

The injury picture drives the slate

Monday, October 19 roster update: San Francisco downgraded Christian Kirk (calf) to out. Deebo Samuel remains out (hamstring), and Mike Evans (ribs/Achilles) remains questionable. Exclude Kirk and Samuel from Monday builds. The 49ers also elevated WR Malik Turner from the practice squad; that does not establish a receiving workload. Jacob Cowing, Christian McCaffrey and Kyle Juszczyk have no game designation. Confirm Monday’s active list and expected workloads before locking lineups. 49ers final game-status report

Monday, October 19 roster update: Washington activated Jeremy McNichols from injured reserve and removed his questionable designation. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been placed on injured reserve and remains excluded. Stefon Diggs (hamstring) remains questionable. McNichols still needs confirmation on the game-day active list; activation and removal of an injury designation do not confirm his workload. Terry McLaurin, Treylon Burks, Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler have no game designation. Confirm Monday's active list and expected workloads before locking lineups. Commanders final game-status report

Exclude Croskey-Merritt from Monday builds. Our examples remain conditional on the final active list and expected workloads, particularly for Evans and Diggs.

Captain options

Christian McCaffrey: $17,700 Captain, $11,800 FLEX. McCaffrey remains an obvious multi-touchdown candidate in a game where San Francisco is favored by more than a touchdown. His receiving work gives him another route to a ceiling. The salary is the problem: Captain McCaffrey leaves $32,300 for five FLEX spots.

We should also build around his current workload, rather than memories of an older season. San Francisco’s official totals show 61 carries and 19 catches through five games, with Kaelon Black handling 37 carries. McCaffrey still has five rushing touchdowns, but an automatic 25-touch assumption would overstate what he has been doing. 49ers season statistics

George Kittle: $12,300 Captain, $8,200 FLEX. Kittle is our favorite way to save meaningful Captain salary without moving to a fringe offensive player. His appeal increases when San Francisco’s available receiving options narrow. Pair him with Brock Purdy and decide whether the rest of the lineup needs McCaffrey’s rushing scores or another receiver’s catches.

Rich Hribar’s Week 6 preview is particularly positive on Kittle’s matchup and notes that he remained heavily involved in routes despite a modest yardage total last week. That is the distinction we want: a disappointing result without a disappearing role. Sharp Football’s matchup worksheet

Jayden Daniels: $15,000 Captain, $10,000 FLEX. Daniels is our best Washington Captain route. In his return last week, he rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 199 yards. That combination matters in a difficult road matchup: he can be the slate’s best fantasy scorer even if Washington does not win. Commanders on Daniels’ return

A Daniels Captain lineup does not always need two Washington receivers. If the bet is on rushing production and a competitive second half, one Washington pass catcher or a receiving back can be enough. We would still bring back substantial San Francisco production.

Brock Purdy: $16,200 Captain, $10,800 FLEX. Purdy becomes more attractive at Captain when the passing touchdowns are spread around. He is a straightforward FLEX priority in Kittle or Evans receiving-Captain builds. For Purdy Captain, we prefer two pass catchers and would be careful about filling every remaining slot with players who need rushing scores.

Evans at $14,400 Captain belongs in the final discussion only after his availability and expected workload are clearer. An active designation alone would not answer every question after a missed practice.

FLEX core and value

Purdy and Kittle form our cleanest early passing-game combination. McCaffrey is the premium addition, but fitting all three with Daniels is difficult. If that forces multiple near-zero-volume punts, we would rather make a deliberate expensive-player fade.

Brandin Cooks, $4,000: Cooks is a useful tournament receiver because there is an identifiable opening in the offense. The 49ers have discussed a larger role with Samuel unavailable. That is not the same as guaranteed target volume. We like him alongside Purdy, rather than treating him as a standalone bargain regardless of the rest of the lineup. 49ers receiving update

Jacob Cowing, $2,200: Cowing’s full Thursday practice puts him firmly in the early value discussion. He is a salary-relief receiver whose usefulness grows if the available wideout group remains thin. We would still check the final receiver rotation before lock; Cooks, Cowing and Jordan Watkins should not all be assigned the same imagined workload.

Chig Okonkwo, $4,600: Okonkwo offers a Washington receiving option without paying for an injured wideout. Hribar notes the target lift he received with the receiver group depleted, while also flagging a difficult tight-end matchup. That makes him a reasonable bring-back, not a matchup-proof core play. Sharp Football’s Washington breakdown

Rachaad White, $6,600: White can fit a trailing script with Croskey-Merritt ruled out, but confirm White’s own availability and the split with Ekeler and the newly activated McNichols before assigning him extra work. McNichols has been removed from the injury report, but still needs confirmation on the game-day active list. FantasyPros points out that White’s 60% snap share last week produced only eight touches. We need both opportunity and involvement before calling this a receiving-volume breakout. FantasyPros Week 6 Primer

Antonio Williams, $4,200, and Treylon Burks, $3,200: These are injury-dependent tournament options. Hribar reports substantial routes for both last week with Diggs absent. Williams is the cleaner early discussion if Diggs sits again; Burks has no game designation, but his expected workload still needs checking. Dyami Brown’s $2,600 salary alone does not prove that he gets the same opportunity. Sharp Football’s receiver analysis Commanders final game-status report

Eddy Pineiro, $5,200, and Drew Stevens, $5,000: Both kickers can work in lineups that need modest scoring without another touchdown-dependent receiver. San Francisco’s defense at $4,400 fits a comfortable-win build, especially when paired with McCaffrey. We would avoid casually combining that defense with several Washington players who all need ceiling games. The current 49ers depth chart and Commanders depth chart identify the kicking roles.

Early projected ownership

Early, low-confidence CTS estimates, October 16 at 10:03 a.m. ET. The table covers 28 listed players; other salary-listed players are not forecast here. This scenario has Deebo out and Kirk unactivated, with Evans, Diggs, McLaurin, Croskey-Merritt, Ekeler, Burks and Juszczyk all playing. Those are scenario assumptions, not final game designations. Saturday update: Croskey-Merritt is now ruled out, so this dated scenario no longer matches the available player pool. The figures are preserved as historical estimates, not current actionable projections.

Jordan James SF $400 0.0% 0.7%

Percentages are rounded.

Cooks and Cowing already have meaningful FLEX interest in this all-questionables-active scenario. They are salary-saving constructions, not automatic low-owned plays. An Evans absence would increase their importance and require revised estimates. On Washington’s side, missing Diggs or Croskey-Merritt would change the appeal of Antonio Williams or Rachaad White; we would not carry these percentages unchanged into that different player pool.

Two example tournament builds

Both examples use one Captain, five FLEX players and players from both teams. They remain subject to Monday’s active list and any change in expected roles.

McCaffrey scores, both quarterbacks contribute: $49,300 total

Slot Player Salary DraftKings ID
CPT Christian McCaffrey $17,700 44533135
FLEX Brock Purdy $10,800 44533076
FLEX Jayden Daniels $10,000 44533077
FLEX Brandin Cooks $4,000 44533095
FLEX Chig Okonkwo $4,600 44533092
FLEX Jacob Cowing $2,200 44533102

This is a four-49ers, two-Commanders build. McCaffrey needs the premium scoring outcome, while Cooks and Cowing must deliver enough affordable receiving production to justify omitting Kittle. Daniels supplies Washington’s rushing ceiling, with Okonkwo covering some of the passing work. The two cheaper San Francisco receivers are the main fragility.

Daniels’ rushing ceiling, Kittle’s receiving ceiling: $49,600 total

Slot Player Salary DraftKings ID
CPT Jayden Daniels $15,000 44533137
FLEX Brock Purdy $10,800 44533076
FLEX George Kittle $8,200 44533081
FLEX Brandin Cooks $4,000 44533095
FLEX Rachaad White $6,600 44533084
FLEX Drew Stevens $5,000 44533091

This lineup fades McCaffrey and wants San Francisco’s touchdowns to come through Purdy’s arm. White benefits if Washington needs short completions, while Stevens can score when drives stall. Daniels must do enough with his legs to justify Captain without a Washington wideout. If White’s role shrinks or Diggs returns to a full workload, revisit the Washington side rather than preserving the lineup out of habit.

Our early approach

We prefer a focused Captain pool built around McCaffrey, Kittle, Daniels and Purdy. Cooks and Cowing are the first inexpensive San Francisco receivers to investigate, with Washington value tied directly to the final injury report. The best tournament decision may be which expensive player to leave out, rather than which extreme punt to force in.
