Oklahoma State -9.5, USC +6.5 and Boise State -10.5 are our three Saturday-night selections. The Cowboys have the clearest passing-game advantage. USC is the calculated underdog play against a changed Ohio State offense. Boise State is the late-window favorite, with a matchup that asks Texas State to win in ways other than its usual ground game.

Saturday night betting card

Pick Matchup Kickoff ET Main reason
Oklahoma State -9.5 Oklahoma State at Iowa State 7 p.m. Efficient passing against a vulnerable secondary and depleted defensive front
USC +6.5 Ohio State at USC 7:30 p.m. Points at home against Ohio State’s replacement-quarterback offense
Boise State -10.5 Texas State at Boise State 10 p.m. Run defense and a passing matchup that give Boise more than one way to win

These are three separate matchup opinions, not a requirement to combine them into a parlay. The night slate starts at 7 p.m. ET, and each selection has a different failure point.

Oklahoma State -9.5 at Iowa State

Oklahoma State’s passing game is the best starting point on this card. The Cowboys are averaging 9.7 yards per pass attempt, while Iowa State has allowed opponents to complete 67.0% of their throws at 8.0 yards per attempt. That is a more useful matchup than simply comparing rankings. Drew Mestemaker can move the offense without needing a string of difficult third-down conversions. Iowa State also has a compromised defensive front. Friday’s Big 12 report lists Caden Crawford, Ka’Mori Moore and Bryson Lamb out, with Trey Verdon probable. Probable is not final game-day clearance. The concern is depth: a defense already allowing efficient passing has fewer comfortable options if Oklahoma State sustains drives. Big 12 availability reporting

The Cowboys have scored more than 30 points in six straight games. We do not need that streak to continue exactly, but it supports trusting the offense to create separation rather than hoping Iowa State hands the game away. Oklahoma State’s game preview

What can go wrong: Oklahoma State has converted only 22 of 42 red-zone trips into touchdowns. Field goals are helpful to winning the game but less helpful to covering a road spread. Iowa State’s recent offensive struggles came against BYU and Arizona; treating those results as a prediction against every defense would be a mistake. The Cowboys still need to finish their opportunities.

USC +6.5 vs. Ohio State

USC’s official preview reports Julian Sayin out indefinitely with an injury to his throwing arm. It identifies Luke Fahey as the expected starter while noting Tavien St. Clair has taken first-team practice reps. Expected is not confirmed, and the final quarterback announcement matters. USC’s official game preview

We prefer the home underdog to assuming Ohio State can carry its usual passing efficiency straight through a quarterback change. The backups have limited game samples. A conservative plan could protect them, but it can also reduce the favorite’s margin for empty possessions.

This is a points play, not a declaration that USC is the better team. We want a competitive game, not an offensive shootout that asks the Trojans to solve every part of Ohio State’s defense.

What can go wrong: The Buckeyes are allowing 13.4 points per game. Their defense can create short fields or suppress USC enough that the new quarterback does not need to do much. A quarterback change creates uncertainty, not an automatic underdog advantage.

Boise State -10.5 vs. Texas State

Texas State’s offense starts with the run, averaging 272.0 rushing yards per game. Boise State has allowed 99.1, with opponents converting only 29.1% of third downs. That is the first part of our case: make the Bobcats work harder to sustain the long drives that normally keep their offense comfortable. Texas State statistics · Boise State statistics

The other half is Boise’s flexibility. Texas State has defended the run well at 3.7 yards allowed per carry, so this cannot just be a bet on the Broncos running over everyone. The Bobcats have allowed 65.9% completions, giving Maddux Madsen a plausible way to keep the offense moving when the ground game meets resistance.

Last week’s Texas State win also deserves a closer look than the final score. The offense produced 250 yards and one touchdown drive; a kickoff-return touchdown helped supply the difference. That does not erase the Bobcats’ explosive games, but it shows why we are not assuming their season scoring average travels intact. Texas State’s Boise preview

What can go wrong: Boise has allowed nearly 8.0 yards per pass attempt. If Brad Jackson finds explosive throws, Texas State can stay within the number without winning the rushing matchup. Both teams can also use long possessions, leaving fewer chances for Boise to build a double-digit margin. That makes this our third selection, not our strongest one.

Texas–Mississippi State: a pass for now

Mississippi State has officially ruled Kamario Taylor out for the rest of the season because his foot injury requires surgery. That matters, but public injury news can already be reflected in the market. We are not adding Texas merely because the opposing starter is unavailable. Mississippi State’s statement

A large favorite still needs its own offense and protection to function. Until the replacement-quarterback picture and Texas’s availability are clearer, there is no need to force a fourth selection.

Saturday weather context

The NWS forecasts checked at 7:02 a.m. ET call for rain in Los Angeles and Boise, with Boise’s Saturday-night precipitation chance at 90% and a quarter to half inch of rain possible. Winds are relatively light, but wet conditions add execution risk to the passing-game assumptions. Ames has daytime thunderstorms forecast with a lower evening rain chance. These are period forecasts, not observed kickoff conditions, and do not automatically change the selections. Los Angeles forecast · Boise forecast · Ames forecast

How we would play the night

Oklahoma State is our first choice because the passing matchup is tangible on both sides. USC is the higher-uncertainty underdog. Boise State is the late option with a legitimate counterargument through Texas State’s passing game.

Keep the opinions separate. One missed cover should not automatically take the other two down with it, and the late game is not a reason to chase an earlier loss.
