Cover The Slate NBA DraftKings DFS Picks for October 30, 2026

Friday’s eight-game DraftKings slate starts at 7 p.m. ET. My preferred starting point is one premium forward, supported by players whose opportunity is already visible. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the first spend-up, Andrew Nembhard is the midrange priority if cleared, and Tari Eason is the value I want to understand before trusting a season fantasy-point average.

The biggest decisions sit at center and in the final hour of injury news. Houston, Chicago and Philadelphia can change the available salary structure. Jalen Smith is now cleared, while Houston still requires a decision on Alperen Sengun. Do not treat those two situations as equally uncertain.

Overall slate thoughts

The player pool covers CHA–WAS, CHI–BOS, DET–BKN, NYK–PHI, ORL–TOR, HOU–DAL, IND–MIA and LAC–MIN. The two 10 p.m. NBA games are outside this DraftKings slate. A late questionable player therefore needs a replacement from these games, not an assumed West Coast escape route.

Indiana–Miami is interesting for role-driven combinations. Nembhard offers creation responsibility on one side and Giannis provides several routes to fantasy production on the other. Keeping that game competitive would help both, but a full game stack is unnecessary. Charlotte’s depleted perimeter and Minnesota’s missing Anthony Edwards also deserve attention.

Core plays

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Heat: $10,500

Giannis is my preferred expensive starting point. Points, rebounds and assists give him more ways to justify the salary than a scorer who needs an exceptional shooting night. Indiana is without Ivica Zubac, which strengthens the frontcourt matchup case.

The cost is substantial. Miami can spread production through Bam Adebayo and its supporting players, and a one-sided game can remove valuable fourth-quarter minutes. I prefer surrounding Giannis with credible roles rather than forcing another top-priced star and three thin punts.

Andrew Nembhard, Pacers: $6,800

Nembhard is probable, with Tyrese Haliburton and T.J. McConnell out. That creates a direct route to ball-handling responsibility, rather than a vague assumption that every Pacer gets a boost. His 18-point, 14-assist return Wednesday shows the sort of involvement we are buying, not a forecast that those assists repeat.

Miami’s defensive size and his neck issue are real concerns. Keep him conditional on being cleared without a new limitation. The salary is attractive because the role can produce across categories, not because Indiana’s entire offense is suddenly efficient.

Brandon Miller, Hornets: $7,800

Miller’s recent attempt volume makes him a strong alternative to a second five-figure star. Coby White and Kon Knueppel are out, while Dennis Schroder has been upgraded to probable. Miller does not require another absence to deserve attention.

Schroder is now expected to play, so do not build Miller around an assumed extra absence. If Schroder is unexpectedly scratched, more self-creation can also bring harder shots and greater defensive attention. Miller is a volume preference, with room for a poor shooting result even when the minutes and attempts cooperate.

GPP plays

  • Cooper Flagg, Mavericks, $9,500: a premium alternative with substantial creation responsibility. His price makes a merely solid game insufficient, so use him when the rest of the lineup provides genuine savings.
  • Franz Wagner, Magic, $8,000: the absence of Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs leaves plenty to do. Toronto already showed how difficult this matchup can be, which makes Wagner a ceiling bet rather than an automatic safe core.
  • Jonathan Kuminga, Timberwolves, $5,200: a more affordable route into Minnesota’s scoring redistribution. PF-only eligibility is a real construction cost, and one strong game without Edwards is not a stable new average.
  • Tyrese Maxey, 76ers, $8,400: moves up my tournament list with Jaylen Brown ruled out. Embiid and LeBron can absorb responsibility too, so the missing work is not Maxey’s alone; there is no guaranteed usage increase of a particular size.

These are tournament alternatives based on role and salary. There is no verified ownership percentage attached to them, and different does not automatically mean low-owned.

Value plays

Tari Eason, Rockets: $5,100

Eason’s opening game ended after three minutes because of an ejection. His subsequent minutes were 27, 31, 33 and 31. That is a much more useful starting point than treating the full-season average as an ordinary five-game sample.

The attraction is rebounds and defensive activity alongside scoring. The caution is that steals and blocks fluctuate sharply, and his most recent game included only six shot attempts. Sengun and Marcus Smart remain questionable, so Eason’s starting and closing opportunities still need another look.

Pelle Larsson, Heat: $4,500

Larsson played 36, 34 and 31 minutes in his last three games. That established involvement is preferable to guessing which minimum-salary player might suddenly inherit a job. His guard/wing eligibility also makes the surrounding lineup easier to arrange.

He remains below Miami’s stars in the scoring order. Simone Fontecchio is available, so there is no extra absence to bake into Larsson’s minutes. Buy his recent role, not an assumed repeat of the eight-assist outing.

Terrence Shannon Jr., Timberwolves: $4,300

Shannon is a cheaper way to participate in Minnesota’s missing-Edwards opportunity. His last game supplied enough shots and free-throw chances to justify a closer look, but his rotation spot still matters more than the final point total.

Pairing Shannon with Kuminga is possible, although it concentrates the lineup in one injury story. I would rather use one of them with a supported value from another team than assume every Minnesota replacement peaks together.

Aaron Nesmith, Pacers: $4,700

Nesmith is probable and reached 27 minutes Wednesday after a smaller early-season workload. He is a salary-fitting wing, not a claim of unrestricted minutes. His hamstring recovery makes a final availability check essential, especially in builds already using Nembhard.

Injury-related thoughts

Official report snapshot: Friday, October 30, 6:15 p.m. ET. Probable and questionable designations below are not active confirmations.

  • Houston: Sengun and Smart are questionable; Reed Sheppard and Steven Adams are out. Clint Capela at $4,100 becomes a stronger consideration if Sengun sits, not before.
  • Chicago: Nic Claxton is out; Jalen Smith, Patrick Williams and Tobe Awaka are available. Smith at $5,000 is now a viable salary-saving center option, though clearance does not promise a full workload. With multiple frontcourt options available, Zach Collins is not an automatic full-minutes replacement.
  • Indiana: Nembhard and Nesmith are probable. Haliburton, McConnell, Zubac and Ben Sheppard are out. Obi Toppin is questionable. Jay Huff’s starting label alone does not establish a dependable workload; Toppin’s status also matters to the frontcourt rotation.
  • Philadelphia: Brown is out. Maxey at $8,400 gains appeal, but Embiid and LeBron remain competing creators. Distinguish replacement minutes from actual scoring responsibility rather than assigning every vacated shot to one player.
  • Charlotte and Washington: Schroder is probable; Tre Johnson is available. Christian Anderson at $3,300 still needs a credible role before becoming a serious value. Schroder trending toward playing weakens an absence-driven punt case.
  • Detroit: Jalen Duren is out. Paul Reed at $6,300 offers a clearer center role than the cheapest uncertain replacements, but the salary already reflects opportunity and his foul risk remains.
  • Dallas: Naji Marshall is probable; Santi Aldama and Tarik Biberovic remain doubtful. Caleb Martin is available. Do not treat an older questionable label as the latest designation.

High-risk, high-reward plays

Capela is an injury-triggered option, not a lock while Sengun’s status is unresolved. Christian Anderson needs a genuine role upgrade, not simply one missing teammate. Huff and Zach Collins require current evidence about minutes and rotation. I prefer passing on a bargain to building around a role that never materializes.

For a more expensive tournament swing, Flagg or Wagner can replace a popular-looking salary structure without forcing a fragile punt. The rest of the roster should still have a credible route to playing time.

Lineup construction and example

This illustration uses one premium anchor, a midrange center and supported wing values. It is conditional on Nembhard and Nesmith being cleared and the value players retaining their expected roles.

Slot Player Salary
PG Andrew Nembhard $6,800
SG Terrence Shannon Jr. $4,300
SF Brandon Miller $7,800
PF Giannis Antetokounmpo $10,500
C Paul Reed $6,300
G Pelle Larsson $4,500
F Tari Eason $5,100
UTIL Aaron Nesmith $4,700

Total: $50,000. Remaining: $0. Nembhard, Larsson, Eason and Nesmith play at 8 p.m., which leaves meaningful late news exposure. Miller locks at 7 p.m. Do not wait until after the early games lock to discover that a later player has no affordable replacement.

Smith’s clearance adds a real alternative: replacing Paul Reed with Jalen Smith saves $1,300 and brings the example to $48,700. That does not make Smith automatically safer than Reed; it trades some role certainty for flexibility. Keep the original $50,000 build conditional on Indiana’s final availability and the value wings’ roles.
