College Football Best Bets: Friday Night Picks for September 18, 2026

Friday gives us a compact three-game college football card, but there is enough separation in the matchups to build a four-play betting slip. Miami-Wake Forest is the offensive showcase, Houston-Texas Tech is the game where the number matters most, and Oregon gets a major step down in competition against Portland State.

Miami -20.5 vs. Wake Forest

Wake Forest is 2-0 and has scored 38 points in both games, but this is a major jump in defensive quality. Miami has opened the season with 45 and 77 points while averaging more than 700 yards per game. Wake allowed Purdue to throw for 329 yards and convert 7 of 14 third downs, which is a dangerous profile against Darian Mensah and this Miami passing game.

The number is big, but Miami has the offensive ceiling to create separation quickly. CTS pick: Miami -20.5.

Malachi Toney 100+ Receiving Yards (-117, DraftKings)

Toney has 330 receiving yards through two games on 16 catches and 17 targets. He went for 234 yards in the opener, then still reached 96 in a 77-7 game where Miami had no reason to keep feeding him deep into the second half.

Wake Forest should force Miami’s starters to work longer than they did against Florida A&M, and the Demon Deacons have already shown vulnerability through the air. DraftKings is offering the 100+ receiving-yard milestone at -117. CTS pick: Toney 100+ receiving yards.

Houston +7.5 at Texas Tech

This is the number we want more than a prediction that Houston wins outright. The Cougars are 2-0, Conner Weigman threw for 305 yards against Oregon State, and Houston’s defense has been extremely difficult to run on early in the season. The market has also moved materially toward Houston after Texas Tech was priced substantially higher earlier in the week.

Texas Tech at home is still a difficult assignment, but getting more than a touchdown gives us room in a matchup that profiles closer than the rankings suggest. CTS pick: Houston +7.5.

Oregon -57.5 vs. Portland State

This is the uncomfortable number on the card, which is why it stays behind the first three plays. Oregon is coming off a 39-31 loss to Oklahoma State and has failed to cover both games, but Portland State is 0-3 and has lost six straight dating back to last season.

The matchup gives Oregon a chance to play aggressively, empty the bench and still keep scoring. The last meeting between these programs ended 81-7. CTS pick: Oregon -57.5.

Malachi Toney 100+ receiving yards (-117). The combination of role, efficiency and Wake Forest’s pass-defense matchup gives this the cleanest path on the card. Miami -20.5 is our favorite game-line play.
