TNF Week 5 DraftKings Showdown: Buccaneers vs. Cowboys Captain Picks, Leverage & Strategy | Cover The Slate

Thursday Night Football brings Tampa Bay to Dallas for an 8:15 p.m. ET DraftKings Showdown. Dallas is favored, but the most useful lineup decision is not simply how many Cowboys to roster. It is which game script gives a Captain the highest chance of beating CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott lineups.

Build your own slate: Free CTS DraftKings Showdown projections, salary, ownership and ceiling.

Captain Strategy

CeeDee Lamb $17,700 CPT / $11,800 FLEX

Lamb is fully cleared on the official Week 5 injury report and has no game-status designation. His 37 catches for 498 yards through four games, including 17 receptions for 189 yards against Houston, establish the slate’s clearest receiving-volume ceiling. He drew 21 targets against Houston, and Dallas can attack Tampa Bay through the air. He is the straightforward Captain when betting on Dallas moving the ball repeatedly through its top receiver. His high salary forces a deliberate low-cost FLEX choice.

Dak Prescott $15,600 CPT / $10,400 FLEX

Prescott is our alternative in a game where Dallas scores through multiple receivers instead of concentrating touchdowns on Lamb. His Captain ceiling rises if Ferguson or Pickens joins Lamb in the scoring.

Javonte Williams $16,200 CPT / $10,800 FLEX

Williams is a different tournament bet: Dallas builds a lead, short fields generate red-zone carries and the Cowboys score rushing touchdowns despite Tampa Bay’s stout run defense. This is a ceiling play rather than a bet on easy rushing efficiency.

Jalon Daniels $12,900 CPT / $8,600 FLEX

With Baker Mayfield out, Daniels makes his second start. His rushing ability provides a way to score without Tampa Bay consistently sustaining passing drives. A Daniels Captain lineup should generally tell a competitive or comeback story, with a Tampa Bay pass catcher or Dallas offensive bring-back.

Core FLEX Plays

CeeDee Lamb $11,800: Target concentration is difficult to ignore. Dak Prescott $10,400: Strong pairing with a Dallas receiver Captain. Jalon Daniels $8,600: Rushing and comeback-volume path. Bucky Irving $8,400: Workload route if Tampa Bay keeps the game close. Jake Ferguson $6,400: Dallas scoring correlation at a lower cost than the premium wideouts. Cade Otton $4,400: Accessible short-area targets for the rookie quarterback.

GPP Leverage and Uniqueness

George Pickens $9,400: A second Dallas receiving ceiling can win if touchdowns land away from Lamb. Emeka Egbuka $8,200: A Tampa Bay receiver Captain or FLEX stack creates a different game script than Cowboys-heavy builds. Chris Godwin Jr. $7,200: Short-area receptions can accumulate when Daniels needs fast throws. Ryan Flournoy $3,800: Cheap Dallas receiving exposure, but the lineup should not assume the same target share as Lamb. Ted Hurst III $2,800: Salary relief that needs a real route to targets, not just a cheap price. Sean Tucker $2,400: A highly volatile touchdown-dependent tournament choice, not a median-projection play.

Three Game Scripts

Dallas passing eruption: Lamb or Prescott Captain, pair the quarterback with at least one other Dallas receiving option and use a Tampa Bay pass catcher as a bring-back. Dallas controls the game: Williams Captain with Dallas defense or kicker exposure, while avoiding too many expensive Dallas pass catchers who compete for the same touchdowns. Tampa Bay competes: Daniels Captain with Otton, Godwin or Egbuka and one premium Cowboy. A Daniels rushing touchdown is especially helpful to this construction.

Projected Captain Ownership

Our Captain ownership estimates are now anchored much more heavily to current public-market projections instead of forcing the field into an artificially even distribution. That matters on this slate because the expensive Dallas pieces and the two starting running backs should absorb most of the Captain field.

Player CPT Salary Projected CPT Own%
Javonte Williams $16,200 15.6%
Dak Prescott $15,600 14.5%
CeeDee Lamb $17,700 13.6%
Jalon Daniels $12,900 10.6%
George Pickens $14,100 9.9%
Bucky Irving $12,600 9.4%
Jake Ferguson $9,600 5.0%
Emeka Egbuka $12,300 4.6%
Ryan Flournoy $5,700 4.2%
Cade Otton $6,600 4.2%
Ted Hurst III $4,200 2.9%
Tez Johnson $3,300 2.5%
Brandon Aubrey $8,100 1.4%
Cowboys DST $7,200 1.4%

The biggest correction is concentration. Javonte, Dak, Lamb, Daniels, Pickens and Irving account for the overwhelming majority of projected Captain usage. Kicker and defense Captains remain viable tournament constructions, but they should not be assigned ownership simply to make the board look balanced.

Contrarian Buccaneers Captain: Emeka Egbuka

Emeka Egbuka $12,300 CPT / $8,200 FLEX, 4.6% projected CPT ownership. Egbuka remains our preferred contrarian Buccaneers wide receiver Captain. If Tampa Bay falls behind and Jalon Daniels is forced into more aggressive passing volume, Egbuka can beat the popular Dallas Captain cluster with an explosive receiving game. At roughly 5% Captain ownership, he gives us a legitimate lower-owned way to build around a Buccaneers passing script without simply using Daniels at Captain. Pair Egbuka with Daniels in FLEX, then bring it back with Lamb or Dak. This is a volatile large-field construction, not a safety play.

Showdown Lineup Construction

Do not treat salary spent as a scoring statistic. Leaving money unspent can help avoid duplicated builds when the chosen low-cost player has a genuine touchdown or reception path. Keep Captain and FLEX correlation consistent with one plausible game story. Never sacrifice a legitimate ceiling just to be different.

Availability: Baker Mayfield, Antoine Winfield Jr., Benjamin Morrison and SirVocea Dennis are ruled out for Tampa Bay. Dallas is without Cobie Durant, DeMarvion Overshown and Drew Shelton. Tyler Smith and Jonathan Mingo have been listed questionable. Official inactive designations determine final eligibility.
